Abode Luxury Rentals Named 2026 Green Business of the Year

Abode Luxury Rentals has been named the 2026 Green Business of the Year, recognizing the local property management company for its commitment to improving sustainable practices across its operations and helping guests make more sustainable choices during their stay.

The award was presented September 3 at the Park City Chamber & Visitors Bureau’s 2026 Annual Meeting—the first time the Green Business of the Year Award has been included as part of the event. Abode is also the first property management and vacation rental company to receive the award.

Abode rejoined the Green Business Program in 2025 and has already achieved Silver certification, building on practices already underway while continuing to find new opportunities to improve.

Making practical changes to everyday operations

Abode has focused on finding practical ways to improve its operations, with waste reduction emerging as a particular priority. The company has piloted refillable toiletries, recycles mattresses through Spring Back Utah, and collects food waste at its office. Abode is also raising awareness of guest food waste within the nightly rental industry and training staff to help redirect donation-ready food left by guests to local nonprofits and food pantries.

Other changes have come from simply looking for better ways to do things. An employee idea to install onsite storage boxes is helping reduce replenishment trips and vehicle miles, while Abode has also switched to non-toxic cleaning products and replaced large plastic laundry detergent bottles with recyclable boxes of detergent sheets.

Helping guests (and owners) make sustainable choices

As a vacation rental and property management company, Abode has a unique opportunity to help visitors make more sustainable choices during their stay and play a part in caring for the community they’re here to enjoy.

Guests receive information about public transit and active transportation, conserving water and energy, and reducing and recycling waste. Abode also shares regular sustainability updates with property owners, helping bring both guests and owners into the effort.

A team effort

Behind these efforts are owners Rachel and Rob Alday, an employee-led Green Team, and team members who continue to identify and put new ideas into practice. Julie Finnegan, Abode’s Property Enhancement and Sustainability Manager, has helped lead the company’s participation in the Green Business Program while balancing sustainability alongside the many other priorities that come with day-to-day operations.

That team support and engagement have helped Abode keep the work moving forward and continue finding practical ways to improve. The Green Business of the Year Award recognizes that ongoing commitment—and the many employees who have helped turn ideas into action.
