Getting from A to B makes up a big part of our carbon footprint and has a lot to do with the quality of our air and our impact on the environment. Becoming more efficient with the cars and vehicles we drive is imperative for our health and our future. Here are 10 ways to reduce your environmental impact from transportation.

1. Drive Less - Minimize your car trips whenever possible. Combine and group your errands to reduce your miles and avoid driving when you don't need to. You'll be greatly reducing emissions from your vehicle and saving money on gas.

2. Fly Less
- If can avoid traveling and stay home to accomplish your tasks, don't fly. Air travel is one of the biggest environmental impacts we have and one flight has the equivalent carbon emissions as going vegetarian for a year. Teleconference, send emails, and make phone calls, and only fly if you have to.

3. Telecommute - If your work allows it, try telecommuting from your home. This will reduce both your commuting time, save you money on gas and may help you be more productive. Companies are finding that be allowing their employees time to work from home, that they are happier and more productive at work.

4. Bike - Get some exercise and ditch your car at home. Biking is a great way to travel and with our bike friendly trails all around town you can get anywhere you want quickly and safely.

5. Walk - While walking might not be practical all the time, when you can, use your own two feet. Try parking your car in one central location and then walking everywhere you need to go instead of driving to each little place. There are miles of pedestrian friendly paths, trails and crossings all over the city to encourage you to use your own two feet to get around.

6. Take the Bus - Did you know the Park City Bus System is completely free? All your round? The bus runs every 15-20 minutes all around town and can get you within walking distance of everywhere you need to be. Make sure to use the bus to get to the ski resorts, concerts, parades, and festivals to avoid the crowds and not have to worry about parking.

7. Improve Your Gas Mileage
- Driving is still a big part of our lives and may not be entirely possible for you to give up, so make sure you are getting the best gas mileage you can. Check our tips and tricks for ways to up your miles per gallon and get the most out of your current car.

8. Stop Idling - Idling gets zero miles to the gallon, so stop doing it. If you have to wait longer than 10 seconds, turn your car off and reduce your emissions and save gas. Help us keep the air pollution down by not idling when you're stopped for road construction and it is a long delay, waiting in line to pick someone up, car washes, ATMs and more.

9. Share a Ride - Join together with one or more people and share a ride or carpool. There are lots of people out there looking to carpool together to work or share a ride down to Salt Lake. Combine forces to save money on gas and reduce emissions. Check out our tips for ways to join a carpool, a rideshare program or find a ride.

10. Buy a More Efficient Vehicle - While this isn't an option for everyone, buying a more fuel efficient vehicle is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint. When it's time for a new car, look for the highest miles per gallon you can get and look into hybrid or all-electric vehicles.
